Want to upgrade transmission and rear end

I want to rebuild and or upgrade my transmission and rear end just to make sure it will never fail me somwhere in the sticks. Does anyone know of a good Transmission rebuild kit, possibly one with a shift kit? And for the rear end, I don't even know where to start. All the work can be done cheaply by my friend who is a transmission specialist in his shop so I don't want people bashing me for wanting to rebuild a perfectly good transmission. Any help would be awsome. Thanks.

Doesn't your transmission specialist friend have a few brands in mind?

As far as the rear end goes, what are you looking to do? Replace the gears, bearings and seals or just the bearings and seals...? Either way, stock replacements from any parts store will fit the bill.

have your buddy do all the current updates for the trans, and put in only the best stuff-kevlar cluthes, stiffer springs, etc, etc.

as for the diff, if your friend has a shop, why not cut & section a 10 or 12 bolt from a full size? while the 12 bolt will be overkill, it would definately get top marks for the "cool" factor. and since 12 bolts are getting harder & harder to find, a 10 bolt would survive anyways.

GL, and be sure to record your project with plenty of pic's, so you can post 'em up for us later.

*edit* just realized your truck was a 4x4, and as far as i know, there really isn't a whole lot to be done to the front diff (for strength) besides finding a Typhoon/Syclone front carrier housing-they were made from steel not aluminum-but their like stiking gold in your back yard-virtually impossible.
