Today I checked the mail and there was the Oil filter magnet that I had ordered. I came across it the other night while researching magnetic drain plugs, I figured "What the hell" I'll give it a try. The ad claimed:
Anyone use one of these filter magnets? I'm thinkin' I'll cut the filter open after the next oil change to see how much metal it pulled out.

It's kind of a catch 22... You don't want to find metal shavings in your engine, but how will you know if the magnet-thing works?

What I mean is that I'm curious to see if there's any amount of metal particles inside that the magnet has pulled out of the oil, but I'm not expecting to find anything. I purchased it out of curiosity and thought it would make for an interesting oil filter change next time.

Sounds pretty good
I have an 02 with 117,000 on it, picked it up the other day for 2100. Today I replaced the distributor cap and rotor, getting rid of the service engine soon light, mechanically she's pretty good now. Here's what I have left to fix, ranked from most important to negligible.
Parking break won't stay, the brake works, but it won't stay engaged. I think it's a simple connection somewhere but I can't figure it out.
Driver seat recline handle(metal looks broken, may not be fixable)
Center console lid won't stay closed, but I can't seem to find a new lid for under $50, don't know if it's worth it.
Missing volume know on stereo. Again can't find one for under $8, don't know if it's worth it, and my dad would know if I took the one from his Yukon with the same head.
Plastic piece that surrounds the windows and lock controls on the drivers door won't stay in place, little plastic piece is broken. Can't find the trim piece anywhere.
So aside from the parking break all the issues seem to be cosmetic, and I can't decide if it's worth fixing them. With the new distributor cap and rotor, she runs great, especially for 2100... Plus it's clean, no rust spots, very few scratches, etc

So far as the seat, I'd recommend getting one from a junk yard or replacing the whole assembly with a nice new one from Jeg's or Summitracing. Is it electric/motorized? If it is, you might lose those functions. I had to replace the handle (probably still available from the Chevy dealer) and the cable (from dealer also), but they might not be available any longer.
Make sure to check out the driver's door hinge bushings and replace them before they go too far out the door. It's a tough job, you'll need help and maybe things like blankets to keep from scratching the paint. Narrow pliers, and maybe other special tools. There's probably a video on youtube.

Mine had a problem and was throwing codes. First I replaced the O2 sensors, and that wasn't the problem. It was the MAF sensor. Once I replaced that, the engine has so much power it's really fast. It will zip up to the limit and pull the hills like a mule. It totally gets crappy mileage now though. I think the mileage went from 18 to 15 for me on mixed driving. But it's really fast now! The best deal I found for the MAF sensor was a genuine ACDelco one from amazon.com.
