ZR2 axle swap
I found an ad on Craigslist for a ZR2 partout. Will the rear axle swap out evenly?
|
Should be no problem as far as bolting in.
|
Evenly? As in width? No, it will be wider.
Shoudl be a pretty easy sway, though. |
you wanna make sure the gearing is the same as the front diff. If not you will have to change one or the other
|
If you have a 2-door non-z then yes it will. If you have a 4-door, you need to grab the rear brake lines, specifically, the T that comes down at the axle. I think theres something with the rear sway bar too...but I cant recall.
Gary, TripleBlackBlazer should be able to help you out. x2 on the gearing...ZR2s have 3.73s, you probably have 3.42s...probably.. |
Thanks for the input guys!
AJBert, I knew the axle was wider than the stock one, thus the reason I want one. But, it's been brought to my attention that the front axle gear ratio must match the rear also. Well, I guess I will go back to getting spacers instead. Would like to stick a G80 in the rear end though! |

[QUOTE] 4 doors have the rear swaybar routed across the back of the rear end. 2 doors have it routed in the front, over the yoke. W2JGA: I think all ZR2's have G80. |

Ok, is it possible to pull the G80 out and put it in mine?

If you can also get the front diff that would solve the gearing issue. I'm pretty sure the front diffs are the same between a Z and non-Z.
