4x4 Question.

Ok...

So I go to use my 4WD today (hadnt in a while) and I have a really really loud whine when moving. It also felt like a pretty serious load on the engine. I immediatly pushed the lever back to 2HI and it stayed engaged for a couple minutes before releasing with a sudden jolt.

I havent really had any other troubles with my 4WD previous to this (other than a hole in a vaccum line)... Do these symptoms reach out and grab anyone?

Thanks in advance...

RE: 4x4 Question.

Welcome to the site. It sounds like you may have made that common mistake that should never be done on a 4X4....replaced only two tires??? If you didn't then you need to make sure all of your tire pressures are the same before you do anything else. If you Do have 2 new tires then you need to buy the other 2....It is very important on these (as on any 4x4) to have the same tire diameter at all 4 corners. A single (or 2 or 3)badly worn tire (even the same size) will cause this problem on blazers. If they are all close to the same wear and the pressures are the same, then you could have a front axle actuator or cable going bad, or even the vacuum switch on top of the t-case.

RE: 4x4 Question.

Nope, wasnt in 4LO... And as a matter of fact I did replace two tires after a recent incident involving an unfortunate piece of metal on the highway.... Put the two new ones on the front and the old ones are on the back... Ive changed tires in this manner before and never had a problem but I guess theres a first for everything. Thanks for the input.

RE: 4x4 Question.

Well as far as the 4x4 goes there was a gromet that connects the shift cable to the lever that was worn and causing slop in the cable. The lever isnt moving far enough to fully engage. Bad news is recently developed a whine in the rear end. After having it looked at Its going to need a new ring, pinion, pinon bearing, and axle bearing. Gears are worn sharp enough to cut paper.
