4x4 taking a little while to engage
I've noticed this everytime I use 4x(quite a bit), but I guess I just now I decided to address it. Everytime I get stuck and shift into 4h, I give it a little gas but remain stuck... But then after a few seconds(5-7) when I let off the gas and the driveshafts are still spinning it will THEN engage into 4x with a loud clunk. Is it normal to take this long? Thanks

RE: 4x4 taking a little while to engage
First off, you should be in 4x4 before you get stuck, then you wont get stuck.
as easily..................... It stkaing so long becuase your tranny is still spinning, that loud clunk is when the tranny has finally slowed down enough to the t-case to engage. If you must wait until your stuck to engage the 4x4, at least put your brakes on first. Even if your stuck the engine is still spinning the tires, no resistence, apply your brakes. |

I do, I am completly stopped with the brakes on and I wait a couple seconds then give it some gas and its still in 2wd then after I let off the gas is finally goes in.

I want to appologize. I am not sure where my head was at. Not sure what I was thinking.
With some trucks you need to be moving 1-2 mph to get her to shift into 4hi, and sometimes 4lo. The little movement lets the gears mess, loud clunk. Check your shift linkage to make sure its not loose, and make sure the t-case is full. There are two plugs on teh back side. One higher hten the other, the bottom one is to draing the t-case and the top one is to fill it. Take the top plug out, if no fluid comes out, add until it does. |
