Default 97 Blazer Engine Light

The engine light in my 97 Blazer comes on and off intermittantly. The truck runs fine, no stalling, overheating or any noises. Could this be a defective EGR valve? I have not taken the truck to a GM dealer because they want $150 to diagnose it and more to fix it.

mine does this too, i also have a 97. i dont think anything is wrong with the engine, because mine does the same, on and off. if you want a dealership to diagnose your car for free, go test drive a new one and have them tell you what theyll give you for your other as a trade in--they diagnosed my window problem and i didnt even have to pay them! sure it takes some time out of your day, but i thought it was fun to test drive the new cobalt, and i didnt have to pay them to tell me what was up with my car. if its not an obvious problem try mentioning it to the salesperson so they can tell the technician to look for that. genius....
