97 Blazer with radiator/cooling system problem
 
I have a '97 blazer V6 with a radiator/cooling system problem. The radiator has a build-up of "mud" in it. It's not just muddy in color, but it's an actual gritty/muddy kind of solid build-up. Was told that it is the result of oil mixing with the antifreeze due to a seal that went bad under the intake. Was also told that the radiator itself may have ruptured inside and the "mud" is the result of tranny fluid mixing with the antifreeze.

Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks.

Check at your local part store for a chemical flush kit.
I know I've used it before to remove the crusty dried Dexcool crap.
It comes in a 2 part solution, a chemical cleaner and a chemical neutralizer.
If you can get, I strongly advise wearing a mask and gloves for your protection.

Read the instructions CAREFULLY.
Last one I did took me 3 hours.

Obviously you're going to want to replace the intake gasket first

Follow ChevyLovers advice, I just did a 97's cooling system last month with a chemical flush kit. LOADED WITH DEXCOOL SANDMUD. It takes time but worth it after. Change the Thermostat also....

So, are you guys saying that the problem is just the antifreeze itself? Or is there a leak somewhere that needs to be fixed first?

Could be results of the gasket leak you mentioned, also check your radiator cap to make sure it is sealing properly. From the forums that I have read about DEXCOOL MUD it is caused by air mixing with the DEXCOOL and it could be something as simple as a radiator cap. You could use an 18# cap from another GM model, that 2#'s could increase your boiling point. My friend used one from a Camaro.

OK evething sounds like its needed, But when its still hot is there a foam like the head on a class of rootbeer?If so I wood do a leak down test, thinking head gaskit.

Yes You Can Make the SWITCH, Make sure you flush all the Dexcrap out completely.
