Adjusting Timing

I want to adjust my timing but my buddies dad said he needs to know the firing order. Does anyone know the firing order of an 88 with the 4.3?

RE: Adjusting Timing

Firing Order -> 1-6-5-4-3-2 & the distributor rotates clockwise.

One thing I don't know is if you have ecm controlled timing which would require the disconnection of the electronically controlled timing signal.

Does anyone know which cylinder fires first?

RE: Adjusting Timing

as in... I guess I don't understand the question... Do you mean which cylinder is #1? If so, it typically is the cylinder on the front of the engine that is furthest forward. If you look at the configuration of the cylinders, you'll see that they are slightly staggered. Cylinders on the right bank are not straight across from cylinders on the left bank. This is true for just about all 'V' configuration engines (v6, v8, etc). So the cylinder furthest forward would be the #1 cylinder. In the case of the 4.3L, it is the driver's front cylinder.

So...
------------
F|2---4---6|/--\
F|----------|DS|
F|1---3---5|\--/
------------

Where 'F' is the front of the vehicle and DS is the distributor... I hope that comes out like I want it to... LOL
