Catalytic converter

Need to replace my catalytic converter, but not the muffler on the Blazer. Does it matter if I get a universal fit (that are like half the price of the direct fits) since I am going to have to replace the pipes from the head to the muffler? And what is the deal with the larger cats that say that they improve performance? Are they really any better, or is there a particular style that I should stick with for my Blazer?

RE: Catalytic converter

if you have to do a whole exhaust anyway you can get a universal fit "high-flow" cat. i dont know what you might see for performance gains or anything... but it should cost less than a direct fit one. i guess it depends on the preference of who is installing the rest of your exhaust system.

Can anyone tell me if they've seen a difference with the "high performance" cats? Just wondering, because they appear to be basically the same price range, just larger.
