Emission Problem 97 Blazer
 

I'm Having trouble passing the emissions test, It will not pass due to a "NOT Ready" status, Ive already took it to the local repair shop and they told me that they found no "codes" that my fuel sending unit had to be replaced because my fuel gauge was always reading full, that they had to reprogram the computer, and that I had to drive the vehicle so the drive cycle would be completed, they told me it would take a few days for the computer to be ready, it's been two weeks and it's still not ready I've spent over $700 on repairs and I keep getting told too keep driving the vehicle , how much more driving do I have to do? I've already put over 150 MILES since the repairs were done. Has anybody had the same problem? I'm trying to avoid having my licence suspended. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

If it will not pass, there has to be a reason. If the shop says they cannot find the reason, they are incompetent. Diagnosis of this sort is very difficult over the internet. Unless you were close by and I could hook up my scan tool, I really don't know how I can help you without even a starting point for the diagnosis. The 'not ready' status of your emissions control system can be caused by many different things. O2 sensor bad, leaking injector o-rings, inefficient catalytic converter, vacuum leak or a bad solenoid in the evaporative emissions control system (vent/pressure of the fuel system). With out proper diagnosis, it is almost impossible to pin point the problem.

The GM drive cycle can be completed in under 20 minutes if done properly. Take a read through this: GM Drive Cycle

Did a dealership "reprogram" your PCM? Where was this work completed? For $700 I would demand that they give you a clear and concise explaination of what they thought the problem was and why they performed the repairs that they did. It is required that they do so. If they do not, I would contact the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and possibly your District Attorney twist their arm a bit.
