Engine Compartment Light
That's a handy light under the hood, near the trailing edge. But mine isn't working.
The lamp is good, I checked it with a multimeter. Is there a mercury switch that activates it when the hood is up? Where is it located? Easy to fix this? Has anyone ran into this problem? Thanks! |
RE: Engine Compartment Light
Yes there is a merc switch. I think its inline where the bulb goes.
Did you know they are supposed to be removed before a car is scrapped/crushed? It is a known heavy metal. Like Megadeth. click here for a PDF on location on merc switch location and removal. I just found it. |
RE: Engine Compartment Light
So, if the light doesn't come on, I'm to assume the whole lamp socket needs to be replaced?
It's not on its own fuse, is it? I wouldn't think so. Thanks! |
RE: Engine Compartment Light
With the hood up, obviously, stick a multimeter in the bulb hole (volts dc,) and see if you get any voltage readings.

RE: Engine Compartment Light
It was hard enough to get the bulb out and then in again, but I'll give it a shot.
I might have to take the bulb socket off the hood to make the correct contacts. But, YES, it might be easier to do this with the hood UP...! |
