Tune-up:
1. Replace spark plugs
2. Replace cap and rotor
3. Replace spark plug wires
4. Replace (Dirty)Air filter
5. Clean Mass Air Flow Meter (use CRC MAF Cleaner or equivalent)
6. Use fuel injection cleaners as recomended. I would recomend Seafoam or Chevron.

My 1997 has 126,000 miles on it, and it gets at least 20 mpg every tankfull. I calculate it by resetting my tripmeter when I fill it up and when the pump automatically shuts off I write down the number of gallons of fuel I put in it. I go through about 2.5 tanks of gas every week and I do mostly highway (55-60 mph) driving, but there are MANY stop-and go's along the way. This last tank I drove 222.6 miles and when I filled it up, it took 10.02 gallons of 87 octane........that's an amazing 22.216 mpg!!! I think it must have improved because of the ambient temperatures droped around here but that's just a guess...I don't know why for sure. I have a K&N fipk 2....a Flowmaster 40-series muffler.....Other than that the ONLY things that have been changed on the entire drivetrain are the secondary ignition components...plugs,wires,cap and rotor. Which were all replaced with original equipment parts when my truck had 101,000 miles on it! I have gotten 22 mpg from it on 1 other tank of gas and it was the one right after I installed the flowmaster muffler. I do slightly overinflate my tires(now stock wheels with correct sized-Michelin rubber) to 40 psi because I believe this gives longer life to the tread, but I do know that under-inflation will cause poor fuel economy. I change the oil and filter (ac delco filter) every 3000 miles or less (if I'm at work and it has less than 100 miles before I reach the 3000 mark I change it) and I install an engine oil additive every oil change. I have never used seafoam, but I do use a Fuel/induction service kit every 12,000 miles which consists of a cleaner that you dump into the fuel tank, an aerosol that you clean the throttle bore/plate with and a cleaner that you use a vacuum source to draw into the combustion chambers.
