Installing amp

I have a 2003 Blazer xtreme with the factory installed 6-disc in-dash cd-changer. I just picked up a sub and amp. I'm quite sure I need an output converter for the stereo in order to hook up the amp. What is the best way to disassemble the dash and stereo to hook up my system? Other than the output converter and an amp install kit, what else will i need in order to hook everything up?

Does the amp have the speaker-level inputs? If so, you can tap into the rear speaker wires and not have to worry about all that output converter stuff...don't know of the quality of speaker-level inputs, though.

Not sure on the inputs for the amp, waiting for my brother to show up with it. Even if it has speaker level inputs, probably easier to use the converter than trying to take things apart to get to the rear speakers

RE: Installing amp

You will have one 7mm screw above your instrument cluster. Take down the cover for underneath the dash and the panel right about where your knees are. All are 7mm bolts. Then there will be two more 7mm screws behind the knee panel. That is all of the screws I believe for the dash panel. Make sure if you have tilt steering wheel to put it all the way down. Hazard switch is expensive to replace. if you have a column shifter, put it in low gear, pull the panel out far enough to get to the plugs for the lights and hatch release. Use a 90 degree hook tool to unplug them. These can be tricky so be careful. Now, if you have a passenger airbag switch on that panel you can not have the ignition on with it unplugged. It will trip a code. If you have a column shifter, just try and get the panel out far enough so that you can put it back in gear and turn the ign. off before unplugging it. After that you have three more 7's for the radio and its out. The wires you hook to should be blue (pos.) and light blue (neg.) for the right channel, and brown (pos.) and yellow (neg.) for the left. Then just work backwards to put it together. If you have any other questions let me know
