need second opinion
 

i just bought a 2000 blazer (coincidently exactly like the logo ^) and need an opion whether to completely replace the IFS or just keep lookin for a lift to fit it. it'd be great if someone could help me cause as of now i havn't found a single lift that'll work for my truck.

depends how much wheeling you do. If you do a lot I would say ditch the IFS and go solid axle. If not you might be able to get away with the IFS. Almost every IFS lifted truck I've ever come in contact with has had problems with the half shafts, depending on the size of the lift and the tires you are running you will also have to replace the pitman/idler arms with better than OEM. They will flex and you will end up having to adjust the toe in/out everytime yours done wheeling. You will also endup with problems with the ball joints and tie rods after time. Basically the biggest problem will be your halfshafts. Most likly you will have to replace at least one of them every time you drive off road if you are running much more than 4" of lift. $75-$100 a day wheeling gets expensive. New better than stock half shafts are available for most chevy trucks (don't know about the blazer/s10 though) and they usually come with some sort of warentee. Problem is these half shafts usually run about $800 for a pair. If it were me, I would ditch the IFS and put a straight axle in there and save yourself the hassle. Of course all of this is subjective, I know guys that don't have any problem with the IFS lift but, I know many more that hate them all together.

Where in hte hell are you paying $800 for a pair of cv axles?
You can buy lifetime replacements all day long for $75-90 each at just about every auto-parts store.


I gotta disagree. Run the IFS, it will do just fine. Keep your tire size to 33" or less and no rock crawling and you wont have too much trouble. If you find that the IFS isn't keeping up with your friends, then it might be time for a solid axle swap. But that isn'y going to be cheap, nor easy.
