Oil Pan
 

Ok so I was changing my oil last weekend and everything was going great. I mean, it's not like it's brain surgery, I've been changing oil since before I could drive.

Wellllll, stupid me, I was on the phone with my girlfriend and wasn't paying attention and tightened the drain plug down too tight and stripped out the hole in the oil pan.

Now what do I do? Do I use a thread restorer and try to keep the same hole? Do I use a tap and tap a new hole for an oversize drain plug? Do I buy a new oil pan? Do I sell the truck to the salvage yard and buy a Pinto? Do I throw myself in front of traffic for causing such a tragedy?

*Shrugs* I'm not sure what the best option is.

i think you should hit yourself in the head with a hammer repeatedlyand then tell your girlfriend that its her fault, cause you were talking to her. that's what women do, find a way to blame us guys.

Anyway,you should be able to get away with tapping a new hole, not sure I would trust such a vital component to thread restorer.

drain the oil in case there are shavings (your threads!) in the pan. Wouldn't worry about the filter thoughl.

IF rethreading the threads don't work. You could JB Weld a tranny drain plug into the drain plug hole.

Dropping the tranny pan should be a last resort type of thing. You have to lift the engine and if its 4x4 you have to remove (at least spin) the front diff out of the way. Not a simple quick solution.
