The squeak from hell!

The back tailgate on my 4 door 99 S10 Blazer squeaks when driving, tried WD-40 and spray silicone it only worked for a short while. Is there a adjustment to make the door close better?

RE: The squeak from hell!

Cut a piece of silicone hose, with about 5/16" Inner Diameter. I used a Help! kit molded vacumm hose. I don't have the number but it was $2.99 and shaped like a "L".

Cut about 1" from an end and jam that on the metal peg that is sticking out from the glass, next to the latch. Once the hose is on there take a razor and trim it so that about 3/16" - 1/2" of the metal peg is visable past the end of the hose. Close the glass gently the first time and it should work fine there after.

I've heard of guys buying new latches or adjusting the existing ones. So far those are the only things I've heard of that've worked.

I have the same problem. I usually just spray down the weatherstipping with some silicon or some penetrating oil. It usually will last a few months before it starts up again. I just do it everytime that I change the oil.

Sounds like there are better solutions, but I spray WD-40 into the latch mechanism, and I recently found out that it lasts a lot longer if you wiggle the moving part of the latch in between squirts. The other thing I want to try, aside from replacing the weatherstripping, is using thick RTV silicone to build up the worn areas in the two upper corners of the weatherstripping.
