Taking off AC???

Some people tell me if you take off the AC thing(sorry don't know the exact name...:() and get a smaller belt you'd get more power... is that the case? Because my air conditioning doesn't work and I don't find it that big of a deal to have, I like my windows down.

RE: Taking off AC???

A lot depends on how hot it gets in Wisconsin. The A/C will help with mpg at freeway speeds, because at freeway speeds having the windows down adds drag to the truck and causes it to use more gas.

But you can find a pulley that will replace the A/C compressor, because if you have a serpentine belt you need to keep the direction of travel for the belt...

RE: Taking off AC???

When the A/C is off, there is no difference between a dummy pulley and the stock compressor. The compressor pulley rides on a bearing and when not activated, produces pretty much no drag.

Now if your model did come with the option of not having A/C, then you can copy the belt routing of a non-A/C engine with a shorter belt and remove the compressor all together.
