Hey,

If I buy a car without a title, can I make a title for it? Is there any way to make a title for it???

Yes, the process depends on the state you live in, but the vehicle must go through a safety and VIN check. They will check the VIN that is located on various parts of the vehicle to ensure that no parts of the vehicle have ever been stolen as well as to check to see if the vehicle has been totalled out before.

Inquire at your local DMV. You will need your bill of sale from when you purchased the vehicle.

They will check if the vehicle has been totalled out before??? What does that mean? The seller says that he "lost" the title, but I don't know if that is true.

If the seller "lost" the title, all he needs to do is go to the DMV and request a copy of the title from the state. In Kentucky, where i live, it costs less than $20.

If you are getting a good deal, offer to pay this fee for him. It will make life much easier.

You can go one better and just have the seller sign one of those Power of Attorney forms for title transfers and then you can go to the DMV and request the replacement title, and he never has to even leave his house.

You'll also find out pretty fast whether the title is really "lost" or not.

I would ck the dash vin and the block (I am pretty sure they still put them there) if they match, it probably is not a parts out veh. you could always go to carfax.com to ck and see if it has ever been totaled or flooded.

getting a new title is like they have said above.
