Tranny takes a while to get into gear

When cold, my tranny takes about 5 seconds to get into gear. Its a new tranny with about 24k miles on it, 700-r4. Any ideas? I think this is a problem for older vehicles, because all my friends older trucks take a while to get into gear, such as reversing and being able to put it in drive before you stop and by the time you stop it goes into gear.

Mine is a little slow as well, I always thought it was the torque converter or something but it isn't. I have a four speed auto btw.

24,000 miles have your changed the fluid and filter yet? they are due to be serviced every 15000 miles.

Let me state that the change interval is 15k when the vehicle is used under the following conditions:
In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature regularly reaches 90*F (32*C) or higher.
In hilly or mountainous terrain.
When doing frequent trailer towing.
Uses such as found in taxi, police or delivery service.

I've always changed mine around 35-40k miles. Install a drain plug the first time you have the pan off and then enjoy quick/easy fluid changes for the rest of your vehicles life. Being a closed system, the only thing to clog the filter is the friction parts in the trans. If you lost enough clutch material to clog the filter, you'll have more issues to deal with than just swapping out the filter.

I like your thinking Kyle.
If you have a drain plug, there's bound to be less procrastination....

I'm a firm believer in changing fluids regularly.
