windshield wiper

my windshield wipers only work in hi.
no other speed
and they wont turn when i hit the bug wash either.
and they will freeze when i turn the hi switch off.
i mean they will stop in the middle of the windshield.
so i have to have perfect timing if i want them down.
anyone know what is wrong.
and how to fix it?

I heard the soldier was sloppy and you can re soldier it yourself. Take apart the wiper motor and slide the board out. Observe any sloppy Mexican work.

RE: windshield wiper

I have resoldered MANY GM wiper motors. Most have been on the fullsize pickups between 93-98. All of the problems have centered around cold solders where the pins connect to the circuit board. Your wiper motor should be the same as the ones that I have worked on. You should be able to pull off the front plastic cover and then remove the circuit board without removing the motor from the vehicle. You will need either a soldering iron or a soldering pencil (I prefer the pencil). Just heat up each soldered joint where the pins mount to the board to flow the solder once again and then allow them each to cool before moving on. Throw it back in and check to see if everything works.

I have seen a few that haven't been able to be fixed with this method, but if you already have the tools to do this repair, all it takes is a little bit of your time, which is much cheaper than a new wiper motor.

My Dad's '94 K2500 was the first truck I did this on back in '96. Almost 10 years later and it's still working great with the original wiper motor with no additional repairs to it.
