Headers

What do yall think about aftermarket headers on the 4.3L V6 Blazer? Would it be worth spending $500 and for those of you that have it can you tell a difference performance wise?

I`ve thought about it, If you have the money, cant hurt any.Gotta help somewhat

Nope.

take the 500 bucks and put it towards a tune. Much more bang for the buck then headers on a stock engine. Ive noticed most restriction is the factory y pipe.

^What Chris said. Not only that, but over time the added heat that the headers put into the engine bay trashes wiring, and anything made from plastic over time.

Not trying to start something, just wondering. How do you get added heat? And cant you wrap em?

Diaita 11-20-2013 12:43 PM

I had a wrapped set on an s10 with a 4.3 and they would get so hot that the collector flange would glow. Where the tubes converged there was a pocket when mud would accumulate and catch fire! I was going to double wrap them, but sold the truck before doing so, I think it would have kept the heat in about the same as the cast manifolds.

Cast iron insulates the heat from the exhaust and sends it down stream rather than radiating it into the engine bay far better than thin headers.

Unwrapped headers aren't an option, any plastic within 6" of them melts.

I should mention that most of the time they were fine, it was only when it was getting romped on that the exhaust would get reeealy hot. But who installs headers just to put around? :D

Yikes, Thanks

ZEPPLIN23 11-21-2013 03:49 PM

Alright sounds good thanks! Ima save that 500 bucks then haha

Any recommendations on tuners for the 4.3?

chris015 11-21-2013 09:37 PM

if yours is a 96+ year....look locally at dino shops etc. I dont like mail in computers. if its not right your back at square one with shipping.
