I Need A Quick Lesson On Exhausts.

ok so im thinking about doing a new exhaust on my 96 blazer and i have it broken down into three pieces right now. the intermediate pipe, muffler, and the tailpipe. the outside diameter of the intermediate pipe is 2.5inches. now on the muffler the inlet on it is 2.5inches now will those two pieces fit together or will i need to get another muffler? and the same goes for the tailpipe and the muffler. the outlet on the muffler is 2.5inches and the outside diameter on the tailpipe is 2.5inches.

you can get an adaptor to go from the pipe to the muffler, should be and ID to Od.

-inside diameter, outside diameter.

so would i need to get one that goes from 2.75 to 3.00?

Question- all of your numbers in post#1 say 2.5", why would you need a 2.75"-3" adapter? Whats the OD of the inlet & outlet on the muffler? If its all 2.5" OD then you should be able to get it all welded together, no adapters.

This is just my top of the head thinking though, and (as per the disclaimer in my sig) I am the first to admit I do not know everything. I'm more so asking that way if theres something to this equation that I'm not seeing, you or someone else can educate me.

im trying to do this in my driveway and i dont have access to a welder. honestly i thought i might be able to slide the intermediate pipe into the muffler use a exhaust clamp and clamp it down and then slide the tailpipe into the muffler and do the same.

2.5 inch pipe will fit into a 2.5 inlet muffler.
