Intake pipe heating up.
 

Ok so I noticed that my intake tube gets fairly warm in the engine bay. I have a temporary cardboard heat shield for it, but I noticed the pipe gets hot even with it there.

So my question is, can you get some insulating wrap and cover the tube with it to keep the tube itself from heating up? Something like this is what I had in mind.

Just an idea. I wanted to see what you guys thought.

The header wrap sounds like a better idea...

The cardboard is temporary and is a template for when I get some plexiglass. $$ has been tight lately. The wrap will come after the plexi if it's actually going to do some good.

I guess I don't understand how the intakes work on little blazers. Is it the stock tube or an aftermarket tube?

OIC, so the cardboard is shielding the filter from the rest of the engine, sealing from the inner fender and to the hood.

I think they make a wrap for the tubes that you can seal with aluminum tape.

Yeah that might be a good idea but i dont know how much good it will do. It just depends on how much the air gets heated up from traveling through the hot tube.

Actually thats something good to look into. the cold air coming in only does so much if the tube heats it up.

Of course it will get hot. It's sitting in the same area as an engine. Wrapping the tube will not do anything for you. The air is moving so fast that it does not have time to heat up from the tube being warm.

Doesn't matter, with nothing to stop the filter from sucking the air from under the hood its gonna suck hot air anyways. Build a heat shield to block it from the engine and force it to suck cooler outside air. I bet the pipe temp will drop after that alone.

Still one of the main reasons why I'm not a fan of aluminum air pipe. Plastic doesn't look as pretty but it doesn't act like a heat sink.

Header wrap only holds water. The metal pipe will condensate and the wrap act like a sponge. Won't be as bad on aluminum as it is on steel headers but it will corrode over time the same way steel rusts. I would have it ceramic coated if it was me to stop heat transfer. I would wait till after you build a heat shield for that filter as that alone might help the pipe be cooler.
