Magnaflow question
 

Hey guys I just went to autozone and saw a magnaflow muffler there and decided it was time to get one. Without knowing much I bought it for near $100. It's a offset in center out muffler. Now when I got home I measured my stock muffler and it's 30 inches long...The magnaflow is only 20 inches...Will this work if I buy more piping? Or is there a different magnaflow that I shouldv'e bought?

Yeah aftermarket mufflers are usually always shorter. If you know how to weld then it wont be a problem adding more piping, unless your original piping is rusted then you might as well take it to a shop and have them bend you new piping from the muffler back, and if you're going that rout then you might as well go with 3" pipe like me ;) And if you take it to a shop dont pay a whole lot more than 150$ for the service.

Sweet thanks man...larger the pipe more power? it's 2.25 inch stock correct?

No, larger pipe = better sound IMO. Its a little deeper with bigger pipe. Oh and yes 2.25 is stock i believe.

Oh and if youre thinking the muffler will give you more power it wont.. Maybe a little better throttle response, but most of the resistance in the exhaust is made by the stock catalytic converter and not the muffler. But even replacing the cat for a high flow cat wont do a whole lot. Theres a lot you would have to do to the exhaust manifolds to see the aftermarket muffler and high flow cat do you any big amount of difference. Also a larger diameter intake (like perhaps a cold air intake) would also be needed. Stock intake is only about 1.5 inches at its most restricted point.

I got a spectre CAI and put the magnaflow on last night, I removed the rest of the tailpiping from the stock muffler back, installed the magnaflow and dumped it off just before the rear axle. Sounds louder than I thought it would but sounds nice. Gotta fix some welds though, a little fumey in the cab.
