painting headers

I have a new set of headers but they are painted. I have seen in other vehicles that the paint can chip and burn off. I wanted to know the best way to paint with a ceramic. Can I scratch up the surface and then paint or do I have to remove the old paint and then spray?

RE: painting headers

if your looking for a cheaper way, then heres what to do. Buy a Paint prep from a paint store. Warm up a Oven, prefefrably a spare one, not your good one in your kichten, to 450 degrees. Paint the Headers with High Heat Black paint, then palce in oven for 10-15 minutes. This will bond the paint alot better then jsut normal painting, and will actually last a suprising long time.

Or pay 100$ and get them ceramic coated and dotn ahve to screw around.
