Default striaght piping

found a guy with a 97 s10 in town with the 4.3 in it who cut off his muffler and welded in a straight pipe.--sounds extremely good (not as loud as i would expect) and i can get it done to mine for real cheap and keep the muffler. im just wondering if there are any performance/ mileage (other than me standing on it more than usual) drawbacks? will i get more power? i live in northern canada so the cops arent a problem--i'd be able to keep the revs low and quiet in town.

thanks alot!

ps--pics of my custom do-it-myelf subwoofer box coming soon--once i finish it! [8D]

should give you a little more power, might make your oil pressure jump a little, but that will probably be from you leaning on it. No real other drawbacks, other than killing the ozone, but who really cares about that???

besides, removing the muffler doesnt kill the ozone, flooring it all the time to hear the sound is what does it

Do you plan on removing the cat as well, or leaving that on?

if so, what are your plans to deal with the sensors?

just took the muffler out and put a blank pipe in its place a few days ago---sounds great--not too loud with a nice crackle at about 4000rpm--idle sounds gorgeous

gonna stick with just losing the muffler. [8D]
