CV Axle maxed out?
 

i have just bought new t-keys and they say "Raise Your Ride 1"-3" ." i was just wondering tho if i do raise it the full 3" (and everything is stock) will the CV axles be okay, or will they be at a bad angle?

1989 Chevy S10 Blazer 4.3L 4x4

General experience on the forum here says that you'll max your CV's out at 2", and most people recommend that the max you lift with the T-bars on our trucks is 1.5" from stock ride height. It is possible that your factory T-bars have sagged over the years and you may be able to lift slightly more than 2" from your current height. You would have to measure to find out.

All that being said, if you lift anything more than 1.5" you need to expect to start chewing through and replacing front end components like ball joints and CV's on an annual basis.

Also, FWIW, you can easily reach the max safe height with the factory torsion bar keys. If you haven't installed them already, I'd return the ones you bought and spend your money on something that will really help your truck. Like a sticker or those glue on hood scoops. I hear they add 15Hp or so.

probably be better off with a body lift, i installed a 2 inch lift kit at work for some kid with a s10 at the full 2 inches the boots were peeling off the cv joint and spraying grease all over

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be a jerk or anything. Just adding a bit of humor by pointing out that there are some companies out there that sell unneccessary products to people by misrepresenting the effect or benefit that they will have. On some trucks aftermarket t-bar keys are necessary to reach the max safe height. On ours with the stubby CV axles and t-rex style control arms there just isn't enough room to lift higher than you can with the factory equipment.
