Modifying the factory bumper height is OK, as long as you keep it at 30 inches from the ground, or lift the vehicle no more than 4 inches.

EDIT: It's usually more bumper/headlight height that's the issue than actual lift.

RE: legal???
In most states you can file for an exemption to those laws. In NC you can just declare it as a) a farm truck (xl) or b) a 'mixed use' vehicle. As long you use it offroad, that neccessitates a need for the lift, and ya gotta go on the road to get to your need
Just call the highway patrol office. They can tell ya!

we have a kid that just get a lot of tickets in jersey. 77' ford with an 18" lift and 42's. its a shame to some point cause it rides like garbage, and now its just to high

RE: legal???
the key word here is ford. what do you expect ?

RE: legal???
That puts it in the monster truck categorey...no longer a street truck IMO.

RE: legal???
it differs by state law. Mostly what they are concerned about is headlight beam height and the amount of rubber sticking out past the body..

RE: legal???
We're still too southern apparently...no fender laws or headlight issues

RE: legal???
yea... what I find in most southern states (with the exception of virginia) is that there are laws that just arent enforced...lol Kentucky has a crap load of vehicle modification laws, they just arent enforced... lots of people running around with straight pipes and 44" boggers on the street...... but true, most southern states are either very loose or have no restrictions..

RE: legal???
Only thing enforced in WA. state is tires sticking out past the fenders, most cops let it slide though
