lifted my Blazer yesterday

Finally had time (and good weather) to do some work on the Blazer.
Welded up some new shackles (hole to hole 8") and fitted them. Was pretty straight forward without having to remove/unbolt anything else. The only PITA was the last bolt of the shackle - bolt was seezed in the sleeve, but a after a fair amount of time and swearing it came out as well :)
Also did a tb crank and had it re-aligned. I have gained just short of 2 inches on every corner.
Now I'm thinking of fitting some 31s

I know, I know :)

I'll take some as soon as daylight sets in.

Rudolph 01-15-2012 05:33 AM

The first pic was taken last week after a wash - 2nd this morning in the freezing cold and covered in ice....in case someone's wondering why the colours are different :)

Looking good.
always loved the flare sets in the euro blazers.
31's and your good to go

TheRandom1 01-15-2012 10:10 AM

Looks really good... really need bigger tires though.

Rudolph 01-15-2012 10:38 AM

I agree. It def. needs bigger shoes.
I also think it needs wheel spacers, especially on the rear. I don't think 31s will come out far enough without spacers.....?

TheRandom1 01-15-2012 10:47 AM

How far they stick out has more to do with the wheels (and/or spacers) than the tires.

Rudolph 01-15-2012 10:58 AM

I know, but the 31s will be wider then my stock tyres. I'll still probably need spacers for the rear though..

TheRandom1 01-15-2012 10:59 AM

What size do you have now?

current size is 235/75/15
Not entirely sure how to convert, but I belive a 31/10.5 is 280/75?

TheRandom1 01-15-2012 11:04 AM

That's what I was going to figure out, I'd use your stock size and whatever the 31's come out to and see how much taller and wider they are.

Rudolph 01-15-2012 11:08 AM

according to an online metric converter : 31x10.5/15 = 267/76/15

TheRandom1 01-15-2012 11:10 AM

So they're roughly 30mm wider than your stockers, which comes to roughly 1 inch wider. Split that between front and rear, you've got 1/2" on each side.

Rudolph 01-15-2012 11:14 AM

yes, that won't be enough. I reckon I'll need some 1.5" or 2" spacers for the rear. The flares are pretty wide.

TheRandom1 01-15-2012 11:17 AM

I believe 1.5" is common to get the rears even with the fronts, but don't quote me on that.

warthogdriver 01-15-2012 11:21 AM

Yup 1.5 inch will do the job....thats what i used

Rudolph 01-15-2012 11:27 AM

Might be an issue to get them here in the UK though. 4.75 pcd is not a common size here

First off, good looking blazer! I like the lift!

And what they are saying is get aftermarket wheels or wheels that came stock on a camaro or 2wd blazer and then see about how far they stick out with the 31's. :)

Dang that's cheap! lol. Nice find. And yes, they will fit. Those are schmexy wheels. A couple guys on here have those, some have painted them too. Like Warthogdriver's.

Rudolph 01-16-2012 06:13 AM

Aye, they are cheap now- no doubt the price will increase drastically :)

heartattack 01-16-2012 08:49 AM

like the look of the 2" lift, was it easy to do the tb crank,
my blazer came with 235's on the front and 255's on the rear, on standard rims and they still don't fill the arches

TheRandom1 01-16-2012 08:54 AM

If that's a 4WD truck, swap those tires asap or don't ever put it in 4x4. You'll ruin your truck really quick doing that.

thats how it came, what problem will i have

TheRandom1 01-16-2012 09:06 AM

If you put the truck in 4WD you'll be spinning the rear tires at a different speed as the fronts putting more stress on the axles, transfer case, transmission, etc, probably blowing whichever of those is the weakest. You NEVER put different sized tires on a 4X4.

The TB crank was done in about 10 minutes...both sides. The shackles were easy as well (except the last bolt) Took more time to make them then to fit 'em :)

And as TheRandom1 said - match all tyres size wise or never put it in 4wd

That looks very good indeed.
Is your blazer satin black?

i can understand it if the rim size was different or the height of the tyres were different, but they're all the same its only the width of the tyre that differs, but i'm going with you guys, this is all new to me.
anyways i like the look of the 2" lift and as its so quick and easy to do
i might have a go at it.

make sure to lift the rear as well though. Just a TB crank will make it look a bit silly I think :)

To get the shackles off I used a 13/16 and 7/16 spanner. Are you going to make the shackles yourself?

heartattack 01-16-2012 02:03 PM

its either make them or or buy the part that gives you the 2" lift, i'm more worried about the front, it there a special tool for the tb crank

Rudolph 01-16-2012 02:07 PM

No special tool. I think I used a 18 or 19mm socket. The bolts are easy to find. remember 1 full rotation is about 1/4" lift.
also make sure to get it re-aligned after the lift

heartattack 01-16-2012 02:18 PM

so its 8 full turns = 2"
thanks, i'll let you know how it goes

Rudolph 01-16-2012 02:29 PM

Yep, 8 turns is about 2"

Good Luck!
