need help with lift shackles

I'm making lift shackles for my ZR2. My stock shackles measure out to 4inches center bolt to center bolt. Now for my under standing is to gain 2 inches of lift the measurement would have to be 8 inches center to center. Can someone please verify this

TMM217 08-27-2013 07:24 PM

I wanna say my shackles are 6 inches apart on my non ZR2 blazer but that makes sense to me to just add 2 inches. Have you done a search to find help.

big_charms@hotmail.com 08-27-2013 07:37 PM

I have searched and for what I can find is that every inch added with give a half of a inch. Makes since to be because your Not moving both ends just one end down

rexazz2 08-27-2013 08:12 PM

I would guess +2" on stock

your only moving one end however its not straight up and down ???

old school car shackles had multiple holes on the spring end for adjustment

google car shackle images

BTW when you look at online images for blazer ones , look at the proportions ???

big_charms@hotmail.com 08-27-2013 09:09 PM

I have be searching. Maybe I just haven't searched the right thing yet but The closest thing I have found is

Measurement bolt hole to bolt hole = amount of lift

4"= stock
6"= 1" of lift
7"= 1.5" of lift
8"= 2" of lift
9"= 2.5 " of lift
10"= 3" of lift

I don't remember where I found the measurements

Yeah since you are only moving one side of the leaf springs, the amount of lift you get is going to be about half, until you get a lot more length than stock.

I Got The day off today so I made my shackles today.
I was looking to get 2.5 inches of lift
The measurement of bolt hole to bolt hole is 9 inches apart
Which have me exactly 2.5 inches of lift

rexazz2 08-28-2013 03:38 PM

I didn't realize you were local
You could have made a second set :icon_deal:

big_charms@hotmail.com 08-28-2013 03:48 PM

Lol I would if I had The steel. I Just had a few pieces laying around which was just enough to make one set. It was really easy to do. All I had was a grinder and a corded drill.

rexazz2 08-28-2013 05:32 PM

actually I put in a set of air shocks and they run it a little higher than stock

big_charms@hotmail.com 08-28-2013 05:54 PM

Air shocks would be nice.

rexazz2 08-28-2013 05:57 PM

really happy with them
can increase the pressure when towing and go back to normal the other 48 weeks of the year

big_charms@hotmail.com 08-28-2013 08:27 PM

Yea I tow a lot. I'm looking to switch to better shocks. Just not sure what ones to get I wheel a lot too

Rexazz2 How close to my area are you

rexazz2 08-29-2013 04:40 AM

I am in waterloo
I put in a set of Monroe air shocks , its a complete kit with hoses and fittings

big_charms@hotmail.com 08-29-2013 05:24 AM

Do you travel this way much?
Are they stock length so did you get longer shocks

newguy 08-29-2013 06:50 AM

Dont go to crazy with the rear lift. you will only be able to get 2 inches,,, pushing it, with a r bar crank. 1.5 safely

rexazz2 08-29-2013 04:13 PM

I went with the factory listing from Monroe
I was probably down an inch and at 60psi probably up an inch
Ride is better than the gas charged Bilsteins I removed IMO

Yea New guy I know what your sayin. I went with 2.5 of lift in the rear to compensa for my week springs and I like the hot rod stance. I'll only be cranking The t bars 1.5

That's a nice looking dog I have a lab beagle cross

Just made a set for mine. Only a 1" lift though except I'm stuck on one of the shackle bolts through the spring bushing. Do you have any pictures of yours? There seems to be a few different styles out there and I'm curious whether that has any affect or not. Hopefully 3/16" is enough... at least it's better than the giant rust flakes I have now.

big_charms@hotmail.com 09-22-2013 09:13 AM

I had the same problem. My buddy's suggested a ball joint tool and press out the bolt. Worked great
