put my zr2 torsion bars in today

Yep, first off the chilton manual says to push the bar forward into the control arm, drop it out of the cross member and pull out the back. but after droping the bar, its at an angle that doesnt like to pull out

I have a better way, tap both bars forward enough to drop the keys out. then unbolt the two cross member bolts & drop that out. then pull the bars straight out the back.

now that ive said that here is the list of bars gm made
Part Number Bar Dia. NOM Torque
LH 15956501 26.63mm 1052
RH 15956502 26.63mm 1052
LH 15956503 27.94mm 1276
RH 15956504 27.94mm 1276
LH 15956505 29.36mm 1450
RH 15956506 29.36mm 1646
LH 15956509 30.69mm 1883
RH 15956510 30.69mm 1883
LH 15956511 32.51mm 2305
RH 15956512 32.51mm 2305

The old ones had settled two inches since i got it. they were the 27.94mm bars. Put in the 30.69mm bars off a 03 zr2 with 33,xxx miles. I must say, it drives more like a 4x4. feels alot more stable going over bumps.

Thank you for sharing those numbers. Now I know what to look for when I replace mine in the Blazer. I too have saggy bars. You figure they are almost 14 yrs old.

Are these part numbers stamped into the bars?

is that the composite plastic front skid and tranny plate?

FYI, in my opinion I would not suggest getting the biggest ones (32.51mm), unless your looking for a harsh ride. The 30.69mm I got are firm but still ride decent

yep the part number is stamped on the crossmember end of the bar (flared end). It will be either L or R, with the last 3 digits of the part number. for example my new left bar said
L

Those are the carbon fiber front axle & transfer case skid plates off the same 03 zr2.

nice find! sorry about the spelling, fixed it. That is the first piece of tranny armor i have seen. looks like a nice little score for yourself :D

yeah it was a really good deal & im really pleased with how it rides now.

if you look in the first post here you can see where the plates go. I still need to find the front carbon fiber plate tho ....

I think the OP was referring to the Front Diff skid plate in his post just to show the front one bolted on, also there is a nice shot of an aluminum TC skidplate. That one looks like the one I have on mine.

Sweet, I've always wondered if ZR2 T-Bars would work on a non-ZR2 blazer.

old skool luvr 12-19-2009 09:54 AM

thanks for the info on the bigger t-bars. i think i'm gonna do new bars in the Spring, since i'm gonna be doing new & heavier leafs then. probably gonna have my guy put a little more arc in them to match the t-bar crank (no more than 1").

good link too!
