1987 K5 - ECM/Calpak/PROM
When I first inherited this truck from my dad after he passed, I had no clue what I was doing but really wanted to finish this build for him. I grabbed an OBD1 scanner and got a ton of codes. Mostly related to EGR. But a few other things as well. I’ve replaced the stuff that was the issue, but still getting those codes. So I’m leaning towards a faulty or incorrect ECM/CALPAK/PROM.
Does anyone know where I can find a resource that can tell me what I’m supposed to have? That way, once I know if I have the right ones or not I’ll have a better idea as to whether or not the ones I have are faulty. I’ll include a picture of what I’ve got currently. I believe the ECM is correct, I’ve read on a few other posts that the 7747 ECM is correct, but I may have been misunderstanding what I was reading. Seriously, I’m new to this and most everything I’ve learned I’ve learned from this forum. But I have no idea how to know if the chips are correct. Once I find out if I have the correct chips or not then I can find replacements. The CalPak, I can’t find anywhere. Harristuning.com will be able to help me out with a new PROM, with an EGR delete. But really, I have no clue what I’m doing with this whole ECM thing. Any suggestions you all can give me is greatly appreciated. Very Respectfully, Evan https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/blazerf...e98902696.jpeg |
As I found for you in your other thread, the smaller of the two chips in the ECM is the CALPAK and the larger is the PROM. From everything that I have read on Code 52, the first step is to remove the CALPAK chip, check the pins for any signs of damage/corrosion, clean/repair as necessary, and reinstall it to see if the code remains.
