Default 1998 blazer electrical/starter problem

Hi everyone,
I was borrowing my bosses car over the holidays and I have driven it twice. Perhaps a total of 15 miles. I got home and turned her truck off and the starter was still running but not engaging. I disconnected the battery as a precaution. It could be either the starter, starter relay, or the starter switch. Has anyone ever had this happen to them?

Also any tips for getting the wires off the starter solenoid? I removed the two bolts off the starter and those wires are a pain to get to, perhaps I'm just looking at it wrong. I know its an electrical issue within the starter because the starter staying on even after the key has been removed from the ignition. While the car is running I can hear a ticking, along with the lights will either flicker or pulse in and out... The gauges in the dash also will flicker.

Any help to get my bosses car fixed would be great. I already told her and she was just like oh ok, no biggie it needs some TLC anyway.

Stephen.

It sounds like the contacts in the solenoid fused together powering the starter motor, but the fact that it wasn't engaged means that the other function of the solenoid, to kick out the bendix, was working properly.

As far as disconnecting the wiring at the starter, it is a pain. Nut drivers can sometimes make things easier or a 1/4" ratchet with a deep socket and a really short extension.

That is what I was thinking... but get this... I went back out to mess with it... connected the battery back up and didn't engage. so I turned the truck on and off, works fine. on and off, fine... on and drove it 4 feet, off and starter was engaged again FML!

still could be the solenoid?
