2000 Jimmy Sunroof Issues
Hey y'all,
I just picked up a diamond edition Jimmy that I've been chasing for years. I've had other Jimmy's, blazers, S10s and Sonoma's. This is the first one I've had a problem with the sunroof.
Someone had siliconed around the sunroof, but when pushing on the sunroof button it tried to move. So I had cut the silicone and it tried to vent up, if you pushed on it to "help' it, it would vent. But then it wouldn't pull down to close. The motor was running. Same with going back inside the roof. It sounded like it wanted to go but it wouldn't pull down enough to slide back.
So my question is, is this a motor issue? Is this a gear issue? Is there some other part that could be the problem that I need to look into? There is no sign of the sunroof leaking whatsoever so I'm guessing they siliconed it because it wouldn't latch and lock.
It's been perfect sunroof weather in Ohio and I'd love to be able to use my sunroof.
Thanks y'all!

You may find some help on youtube. BTDT myself. The parts in the channels of the sunroof are plastic and they break all apart. You need to remove the headliner and work the glass to the back of the tracks and replace them. I found a kit easily available on fleabay. For me, the hardest part was getting the timing even between the two sides. It's been a couple of years and my memory never was good to start with so I'm sure I'm missing a lot. I seem to recall that you have to drill some rivets out of the back of the track to get the pieces in and out.
Here ya go, complete with writeup.
