83 K5 OBD question
The Googler tells me that my K5 Blazer has an OBD1 port under the dash. I cannot find this mysterious OBD port.
The date code on my dash insert is 10/82. Does anyone know if there is an OBD port on this vehicle? Thanks |
If it's there, it should be under the left side of the dash by the steering column. But not all GM vehicles had computer controls in the early 80's (particularly trucks and non-California models), so you may not have it. Do you have an O2 sensor in the exhaust? A feedback carburetor? If you don't have those, it's not computer-controlled, so no OBD port.

Tom A., thanks for the info. This is a Colorado vehicle. On further inspection, it does have a cat and no 02 sensor and also no OBD port.

If equipped with fuel injection it still should have the ALDL port.
https://easyautodiagnostics.com/gm/2...rouble-codes-1 This article describes the port and has a picture. It looks more like a regular multi-pin connector than a diagnostic port. On some vehicles it was not fixed to the das or because of the location it has long since been broken off and probably been stuffed into the wiring harness. It usually sat below the steering column. |
Fuel injection didn't start on those until 1987.
