Default 98 blazer dic shorting out?

when we turn the switch on the dic will come on, but when we crank it itll go off and no matter what we do it wont come on, we can turn the blazer off and leave the switch on and itll come back on again, any advice? also if i turn it on and forget to turn it off before i crank the blazer itll get hot as hell until i press the on/off button and itll cool down after about 5 minutes

It sounds like something isn't contacting properly in the ignition switch. Check out the link in the bottom of my signature (anatomy of the ignition switch) and test the circuits that close across the various contacts in each key position.
