Alarm system causing truck not to start - 1990 Blazer/S-10
 

Hey everyone,

I have a 1990 Blazer/S-10 that has either a factory option alarm system installed, or an aftermarket system installed. There is a little LED light on my headlight panel if that makes any clarification on the model/type.

Regardless, I am almost positive this is causing my truck not to start up right away. I have to turn my key to the start position, and turn it back to the off position if it did not turn over. I will generally have to do this 10-12 times each time I want to start my blazer. The only time this issue subsides is when the battery is disconnected. The security system seems as if it restarts, and allows for me to start my vehicle right away. This only happens the first time I crank it after I disconnect the battery.

If anybody has any knowledge on what the issue may be, I would greatly appreciate it.

Update: When I was taking apart my headlight panel, I disconnected the red blinking light and for some reason, that seems to have fixed the problem. I'm not entirely sure because it doesn't seem to make any sense, but it has turned on right away for the first time like 10 times in a row which leads to to believe it might be fixed. Any thoughts?

I can assure you the 90 did not come from the factory with an alarm.
You can find out what alarm it is by looking under the dash on the driver side for the control box.

That is odd that the removal of the blinking red LED fixed the problem, but if it fixed it, go for it.

I would suggest possibly removing the alarm system all together if the problem comes back.

yeah i second the removal of the alarm, just like anything else on car they do go bad. i probably rip one out of a car about once a month. most the time they are usually really easy, just lay under the dash and see which wires were cut and had the alarm spliced in, you just remove the aftermarket junk and reattach your cut wires
