Default alternator swap

Will an alternator from a 1989 4.3 match up in the 87 2.8? I think the alternator is bad in my 87 but it passed inspection at the parts store.

Because the alternator is locking up. The baron must be bad. With the alternator off it cranks fine

Call your local parts store and get the alternator part #'s for the 89 and the 87. See if they're the same. I had the alternator on my 91 lock up like that on me.
