Audi/BMW side marker MOD
Thanks to KiwiBlazer for the support as I was inspired by him to take on this project.
Smoked Side Markers- $12.00 Ebay Side Marker Pigtails- $10.00 Ebay 20 count of Cutting wheels- $6.00 Hardware Store Black Foam Sheet- $1.00 Craft Store Dremel, Wire, Connectors and Bulbs I already had. First find a location for the side marker. I looked online for a template but came up empty handed. So I just eyeballed a location and made my own template out of cardboard. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2298.jpg Then tape the area you are going to be cutting. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2297.jpg Using the template, trace the oval onto the tape. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2300.jpg (now for the scary part!) DRILL your first hole into the fender. I drilled 4 in a row to eliminate the amount of cutting needed. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2301.jpg A steady hand is needed for the rest. Begin cutting with the dremel cutting wheel. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2302.jpg Remember, cut little at a time and test fit often. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2303.jpghttp://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2304.jpghttp://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2305.jpg Once cutting is complete use the grinding/sanding wheel to smooth the edges. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2307.jpghttp://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2308.jpg One last test fit and pray :D http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2313.jpg Clean Cut :D http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2315.jpg Time to wire it up. Attach leads to the pigtails (remember to measure and leave enough room for both headlight removal and side marker removal. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2325.jpghttp://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2326.jpg Tuck the wires away and splice them into a corner light, I chose the 97 bulb in the headlight housing. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2327.jpg Repeat for opposite side (flip template over) measure the finished side and double check your markings on the other side. I found once installed that there was a little gap between the housing and body. I bought a sheet of black foam from the craft store, and cut a ring to fit around the light. Made it look finished and OEM. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2329.jpghttp://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2331.jpg Before: http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2332.jpg After: http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2333.jpg Installed: http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2317.jpg http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...d/DSCN2328.jpg All lit up: http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...DSCN2338-2.jpg |
