Default Brake Light Switch Connector

Hello,

I have a 1995 S10 Blazer 4.3L V6 CPI. Today, while replacing the brake light switch, I came to discover that 2 out of 5 wires were ripped off of the connector that the switch plugs into. The local parts store has the replacement connector, however, it has 6 wires coming off of it. This is the only one that seems to be an exact fit for the Blazer. Is the 6th wire supposed to be capped off? How am I supposed to go about this?

I would double check to see if that extra wire was ripped off of the connector with the other 2. Check a wiring diagram or local parts store for what color wire you're missing. Maybe go to a junkyard and pull the connector yourself. That way you can see where the extra wire goes and get a better price on a replacement connector. It also wouldn't hurt to follow your ripped off wires to check for damage. If they are, you can get the extra length from the connector at the junkyard.

I went ahead and ordered a new connector. I'm going to go ahead and splice it on to the current harness after cutting off the old connector. Hopefully, the 6th wire won't get in the way of making the switch work or I'll come across the 6th wire during the repair. Thank you for your input!
