Cabin ambient temperature

I have a 98 LT with auto climate control. Fairly certain the control panel is the problem as I can fiddle around with the settings and get the air to come on. I bought a used one that looks way less used than the original one. HOWEVER, I want to replace the cabin ambient temperature sensor that I understand is somewhere over the drivers seat in the headliner. I have looked everywhere I can think of on the WWW and cannot find one. Any suggestions besides the junk yard? These are supposed to be correct cross referenced part numbers including the OEM part. I'm not too sure about any but the GM/ACDELCO part numbers.
GM 15756446
WELLS SU13262
CARQUEST 724948
AIRTEX 5S11809
ACDelco 1551149 or 15-51149

Is there a small plastic grill in the headliner above the drivers seat anywhere?

Yes sir. Looks like a tiny speaker grill. Need to figure how it comes off.

I believe that you have to remove the headliner trim pieces so that you can partially drop the headliner and gain access to the sensor.
