distributor cap issues

I'm having what a problem with fire and I believe its the distributor cap at fault. Its fairly new as i just got done rebuilding my blazer. it was driving fine and then the ignition control module went out. obviously I had to remove the distributor cap to replace it and everything came off and went back on smoothly. it ran good for almost a week and then the symptoms returned, started sputtering while driving then cut off. I got it to fire off right after that and it backfired and choked out again. naturally I thought it was the ignition control module so I replaced it and its still doing the same thing. it'll turn all day and never fire. when I replaced the ignition module i couldn't get the distributor cap to go back on. it was late at night so i just thought I couldn't see. went back the next morning and it was the same result. one screw will start but the other wont. after an hour of messing with it I finally got it screwed tight but after I checked it with my spark tester I wasn't getting any fire from the distributor, although the coil is firing properly. I also noticed that the cap was shaking back and forth as it was turning even when it was screwed down tight. has anyone else ever had this problem? I know that those distributor caps go bad but I've never had one not go back on. is there a bigger problem or is it as simple as just getting a new one seeing as how the one I have doesn't have an oil change on it. I'm really not wanting to replace the cap and then be right back where I started.

I had that problem and it was my fuel pressure regulator, odd i know but look into it, have someone or you do a fuel pressure test first and see if its leaking cause if not its a HUGE pain todo

ive seen the distributor bearings go out on these trucks where the rotor just lives up into the cap. see if the inside of your cap is all gouged up from the rotor hitting it. if your sure the rotor is pressed down all the way then you need a new distributor
