electrical issue in 95 chevy s10
so i was driving the other day at night and out of no where the floor light by the floor pedals turned on and wouldnt turn off, even with the ignition off and headlights off and dimmer switch off. im stumped. it has to be getting a draw from the battery somehow. in the meantime i had to take off the panel to get to the bulb casing and took out the bulb, then screwed everything in. i havent begun troubleshooting because i dont know where to begin

i would trace back from the bulb casing and check for a short.
if it is only that bulb then it has to be on that circuit. |
how do i do that? im not too electrical savvy. what would i be looking for? melted wires or what? also could it be a short in the fuse box that that circuit is on? can u be specific? lol im a dummy when it comes to electrical issues. they suck and right now thats all thats wrong with my car

Well, if I remember correctly the driver and pass side floor courtesy and the dome light all operate when a door is opened. Are those other two affected?
|
unfortunately those dont even have bulbs in them yet so idk. maybe. would u replace the bulbs in those first to find out?

Seriously, people.... Get to know your own vehicle so you know what is supposed to work when! You do not have to be an electrical genius to do that! I'm gonna short cut this: I am 95% sure when you put a bulb in those and restore whatever you disconnected, they will stay on, too. Then I am 90% sure that the problem is in one of the switches in the door jambs that operate when you open and close the driver and passenger doors.. VERY common fail in older vehicles. Or maybe even the back hatch.. I dont have diags for older. SOME vehicles, the 'Door Ajar' warning will also come on. Others it wont. That lite usually operates from a door latch switch, if equipped. |
dont gotta be a dick. i bought the vehicle a week ago so im just figuring **** out. i literally joined this forum so i can learn more about my truck. if your going to be impatient then dont reply. but thanks for the info, ill test that out

You specifically said the left floor courtesy light. thus throwing us off. In other words YOU left out important information that would have led directly to the suggestions I just posted. Warthogdriver would have had the same advice if he'd known it wasnt just one of the three lights. And EVERY one of the 6 or so fords and chevys I've had in the last 20 years works exactly like your blazer. So do I infer from what you say there that this is your first car? I'll gladly help you out anytime, just be ready to accept advice you may not want to hear.. but I bet you remember. Learn your car while it works well. See. Listen. Feel |
