fuel gauge reading past full

1995 blazer LS 2 door,4.3L, automatic, 4wd

After I fill up it reads about a quarter tank past full, it goes down as fuel is used but I never go below 1/4 tank cause I am not sure if ther is actually fuel. I normally refill when it reaches half tank, the gas pump indicates 10 gals give or take a little any ideas ? I know it has a 20 gal tank, not sure about any reserve.
Thanks in advance.

seems normal. gauge to tank level isnt going to be linear.
it's more of a guideline

fuel gauge reading past full

Does anybody else think this is normal rehaps I am just thinking it should not go past full that much. I don't have many things that get under my skin but running out of gas reallllllly does !
Thanks

Gas gauge reading past full is usually indicative of a poor ground, causing the gauge to falsely read higher than it should. Check out this Tech Article: 98+ Fuel Gauge Diagnosis. While it is specific to 98 & up, the same principle still applies to older models too. It's just the ground locations that may be in different spots. Hopefully this helps.

If you really want to test your gauge, fill a gas can and carry it with you. Just run your Blazer out of fuel and see where your gas gauge sits when the truck really is empty.

My 89 reads past full as will and this is with a brand new Fuel Pump assembly. It is a 20 gallon tank and as it gets closer to E it becomes more accurate. I have been monitoring my fuel mileage at each tank full for about a month now and I am averaging close to 20 mpg. I reset my trip odometer each fill up so I know what the range is on a full tank. My range is 400 miles to an empty tank. I do not think I can go 400 miles because I do not believe the pump pick up is going suck up every last drop of gas. Now as a test, I had a 5 gallon can of gas with me and I ran the gas gauge to E and I did not run out of gas. There is some reserve, how much past E can I drive I will never know. So you probally can go down to E as well but I would do a test just to make sure. Even though the needle appears to be off by a 1/4 at full on my jimmy it is actually only about a gallon off. At 7/8 my trip odometer reads about 70 miles vice 50 miles at 3/4 about 120 miles vice 100 miles at at 1/2 it is 211 miles vice 200. As the tank empties the accurracy improves.

At 1/4 tank trip odometer read 292 vice 300 so now the gage is a under by 8 miles. Not quite a 1/2 gallon of gas off.

My '95 only has an 18 gallon tank. Are you sure it's really 20?
