I think I reached my limit
thought my bump bar could use another light. what do you guys think? I rewired a lot of stuff too. the 2 lights were on my fog light switch but I wanted those lights to stay on all the time so I just wired a switch for them and moved my roof light switch next to it. I think the switches look good. problem I ran into is my dash lights wouldn't come on I guess the gray wire controled them coming on and off on the fog light switch so I thought putting it on a direct power wire would work but the dash lights stayed on no matter what. so I put those on another switch which i hid. I guess I'll have to get used to it. I have the quad beam mod and with all my lights on it gets pretty dim. I'm thinking I'm going to have to upgrade my alternator soon.
heres some pics ill get better ones when its not raining... http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1176/...e18f153a_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3306/...8498f382_b.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1379/...84b4560c_b.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1040/...67b8abd7_b.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1111/...60822b77_b.jpg I think I might need to make the wires bigger for the ones on the bull bar. the rood lights are a lot brighter |
I like it, it looks great and looks like it belongs... The alternator upgrade is something i'm looking at doing myself before i fry my electrical
|
the install looks good. it's nice when you can find nice 'n small rocker switches for your projects.
and it's definately time to upgrade the stock alt now! |
A AD244 GM alternator would work well for you. You can get a used one for like 40 bucks at a junk yard and it requires no modifications to swap it out except for the need of a slightly longer belt (1-1.5" longer). Be sure to do the "big 3" upgrade if you do this. An ad244 will easily put out 100+ amps at idle. The stock alternator puts out around 40 at idle I believe.

I need to get new tires first then my next upgrade is deffinatly going to be a new alternator. is that AD244 GM alternator from a suburban? I know theres an escalade sitting at my local junk yard if that alternator would work?

I'll have to take a look at it when I get the chance hopefully it still has the alternator
|
Yeah that alternator I've heard is a great upgrade for our trucks. I've looked into it myself a little bit. Yeah those lights and such add up quick. And a 140 amp powermaster alt from advance will run you about $200 or so. Espically if you have a shop that could replace the diodes and all that i'd get the fullsize alt. Even if there isn't a shop if the donor truck is newer and doesn't look like it had a system or anything that might have taxed the alt.
|
I just looked on Rock Auto at the Escalade section and it literally says AD244. its a reman for $161.79
|
the sad thing is I just replaced my alternator like a year and a half ago.. I did some rough calculations and I need about 160 amps to power all of my stuff. I'm going to look into the escalade alternator. so it says AD244 right on it and will bolt right up? and how long is the stock belt?
