Default NEED ADVICE 97’ multi function switch change

I recently went to change my multi function switch because my emergency flasher button broke, at first I didn’t know I could just buy the button so I pulled the whole assembly and got a replacement from the junk yard of the same type but off of a Silverado.
i installed it and found an issue with the wiring.
the switch I took off had one less wire than the replacement and I didn’t think much of it until I tried plugging in all the plugs and found that in my vehicle I’m missing the plug for the larger of the side wires(one plugs into a port behind where the key goes in, and one is supposed to plug in somewhere down the steering shaft on the top side) instead of the plug in for that larger one being down where it’s supposed to be it’s cut and spliced with the smaller wire they come together so it is basically one wire.

now My issue is that I plugged the old switch in just how it was and I can turn on the car, the ignition turns forwards but when I go to shut it off the key won’t turn any farther than one point before completely off, and to get it to turn all the way off I have to pull out the thing that the smaller wire plugs into( I will reference all of it below).
This is what I have to pull to shut the car off

(EDIT: I figured out on this part when I had it off that there is two button things, if I push the larger pin then smaller one goes in, and if I push the smaller one only the smaller one goes in. If I push the larger one while it’s plugged in I can shut the car off without pulling anything.)
This is the two wires spliced into one

has anybody done this before that can help me out?

any help would be appreciated as I currently am frustrated because I can’t use my vehicle because I have no turn signals

[QUOTE=Jaxsan;755924] the only reason I started this project is because my hazard button broke and my hazards wouldn’t shut off and now I’m waiting on a button to come to the part store because I figured out you can change just the button, and now I don’t have turn signals so I changed the relay and I still don’t have turn signals

[QUOTE=Jaxsan;755927]
now that I put in the hazard button I was waiting on, I still have no hazards and no turn signals, I replaced the relay for the turn signals this being the second time and I even plugged the brand new relay into the hazard slot and nothing.
Im curious if maybe I plugged the assembly in upside down(I put the grey side on the black side and visa versa?) so the main part of the plug in is wrong but also I have no idea.

my windshield washers work and I haven’t tested the cruise yet because the knee bolster is down.
can anybody guide me on how to troubleshoot these issues?
everything worked just fine before I started this project which is coming up on a week

So this fix your problem too, with the ignition not turning all the way back.

That problem I never fixed, I managed to forget it was a problem and as I asked multiple mechanics and friends/family no one knew

Dang, because my blazer is throwing transmission codes and causing it not to shift up or down out of 3rd, once I put it in drive, but I do appreciate you responding. Thanks
