Default Overhead console

I have a 2000 Blazer LS with the long overhead console. I'm trying to install a roll cage, but the console is right where the main hoop needs to be. Can I switch it out for the short one? Is it plug and play? Will it leave behind a gigantic hole in my headliner? I'm trying to keep it from looking hacked up.

I know I can just pull it out to answer my last question, but I haven't had a chance yet.

Thanks.

Never mind. I'm just going to move the hoop back a little bit to clear it. That way, I won't smack my head on it, either.

I haven't gotten very far yet, so there's not much to see. But I'll post some pics when it starts looking like something.

For what it's worth, I believe the plugs are indeed the same between the short one (found on the models with a sunroof) and the full length one. And yes there would certainly be a gaping hole left open in the headliner lol.

So, here's what I ended up doing. Before anybody tells me about all the pieces that are missing, the importance of triangulation, etc., the cage is not nearly finished. I still have a ton of work left to do.

I leaned the main hoop back at the same angle as the seats. That way, it clears the console and it's not right over my head, waiting to give me a concussion if I hit a speed bump too fast.

I added an "extra" hoop in the back so my dogs would be safe, too. Since it's attached on top of the wheel wells (which are pretty flimsy), I tied it into the frame, too.

View from the back. The two top bars are not welded in yet.

So, chevyriders, at least that might give you some ideas of what NOT to do.

Oh man, that's looking awesome! i was concerned with moisture gettting into the cabin from where the rollcage tubes would come thru on mine- but the way you sandwiched plates around the sheet metal to tie 2 seperate sections together is a great idea.

Nice work!

Thanks. I definitely hope I never get to test it, but it's nice to know it's there.
