There are so many diff types of flood lights on the market!
Hey guys, I am in the process of picking up a used pushbar for my 1996 s10. I am now looking into purchasing 2 lights to mount to the bar but man is there alot out there! I dont want to blow more then $100 for the pair, they need to be bright for night driving. I do not go off roading. I dont even know what wattage is acceptable? 55? yellow lens? why yellow? :icon_couchhide:

$100 for lights is about average for "decent" lights. As for the night driving but not off road, you don't want flood lights, you want driving lights. Flood lights are for off road & are illegal on road whereas driving lightsare meant to be used for night driving to illuminate further ahead of you. Many vehicles now come with driving lights from factory, they're usually mounted in the bumper.
KC makes good lights & you could possibly find some driving lights around for a couple "Grants" ($50 USD). PIAA's are good but $$$. Have you looked on ebay for name brand lights or online like JC Whitney, Rock Auto, Craigs List etc? Oh yeah the "to be yellow or not to be" yellow is usually for fog lights or (as I've seen lately) some people have 3000K HID's in the lowbeams for bling factor... bright & annoying as all hell with the SPLASH effect all over the road & peoples eyes. http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/...CN0145rs-1.jpg My PIAA 520i fog lights - notice the 2nd house at the right of the pic? You can even see the lights on the snow banks on the street beyond it. That's at least 300' away & for that I paid $200 lol. 55W are the norm. for lights, a lot of off road lights are 100W & some are 85W as my PIAA's are. I'd look at readers reviews & if they have images with the lights & how they project would be a bonus too. |
Thanks for the reply. I was looking on amazon and these KC lites got killer reviews from actual users. I am going to save up a little more and probably buy these puppies. I want to connect them to my high beam harness so when my high beams going on the lights also go on. Any side effects of this?

No problem I hope it helps. You should use a relay with a seprate power source & an inline fuse for them. I'd also have the relay activation wire on a inline switch. That way you have full control if you want them on with the high beams or not.

Those project a 'pencil' beam meaning they only really are spot lights. They are insanly bright, but very focused. Just be aware of that. If you go to KC's website you can see the different types of beam patterens that are availible.
