Tips on Dashcam Installation
Thought to make a thread just to help anyone who is installing a dashcam. I went with the Rexing V3. Since the outlet in our cars get power full time I didn’t like the idea of using the car charger cable for the dashcam so I instead bought one that came with a hardwire kit.
The way these work is you use add-a-fuse to tap into the fusebox for power. I suggest using rear wiper fuse for the accessory power cable and then for the ground clamp put it on the bolt behind your parking brake. If you use the constant power cable for parking mode you should use AuxPwr fuse but I do not suggest that because it drained my battery overnight. Running the wiring from fusebox to dashcam is super simple, push wire into A Pillar and then run it above windshield against headliner. For rear camera just run the wire in between headliner above the doors. For the rear camera I mounted it next to the dome light so that I did not have to wire through the boot onto trunk hatch. I did have to rough up the plastic with sandpaper and put a piece of duct tape down and then use duct tape to mount the camera because the 3m strip wouldn’t stick to the plastic trim. Hardwiring the cam makes it so that it turns on and off with the car, it also makes wiring more cleaner rather than having a cord hanging. Again, you can use Auxpwr fuse for parking mode but I don’t suggest it because for some reason it did drain my battery. Just zip tie the extra length of wire up out of the way. Nice!
I'm assuming this is a 2nd gen Blazer? |
Yes second gen.
I’d also like to correct myself on the two fuse cables, you actually do need both plugged in but if you put one on rear wiper fuse and one on the radio fuse it will still turn on and off with the car but it will not take power when the car is off. The smart hardwire kit will not work unless both wires are plugged in. |
