Default wait for truck to recognize the key is turned on.

I used my 97 blazer to jump a mans 80's truck. i was not aware that newer vehicles weren't supposed to jump older ones. well, it almost immedately started having an intermittent starting problem. i put the key in turn it and then i have to wait forever for it to recognize the key is engaged. not sure if it may be the ECM or the ignition switch. i am hoping this has happened to at least one more person on this forum.

if you hook the cables up properly a new ride can still boost an old ride.

I doubt the problem was caused by jump-starting an older vehicle. Sounds like your ignition switch has started to fail on you...

When you say that you have to wait, are you holding the key in the START position and it takes a long time (how long) for the starter to engage?

I engage the key and it cranks but doesn't fire. If I wait 15+minutes ill see the gashes on the dash read properly then I can start it just fine. It also dies due tobthe same problem. Right now its intermittent. I'm thinking it may be the computer or ignition switch but maybe even the fuel pump relay

I have the same issue, I have to have key in "on" position for 10 to 15 seconds before starting.

Having to wait 10+ minutes is a tell tale of a passlock issue. Could be that it just needs to be reprogrammed or it could be your ignition switch on the way out.

Having to wait 10-15 seconds could possibly be a problem with the fuel system. I'd start with a fuel pressure test and see if you have some leak down which would require time for the pump to prime the system before starting.

brently04, please start a new thread on your problem as it sounds quite different from the original topic of this thread. Thanks!
